Evening set

People and Brands:
Designer: Bill Blass

1922-2002

Medium: Black sequins, ivory silk, and faux jewels
Date: Spring 1989
Country: USA

This trompe l’oeil evening ensemble is a witty homage to Chanel’s personal style. Blass transformed the all-American tee shirt into a glittering evening top with strands of fake pearls in imitation of Chanel. The pleated palazzo pants are cut wide to resemble a skirt, similar to the type of sportswear that she designed and wore in the 1910s.
