Saint Laurent’s “Russian” collection is credited with reinvigorating the depressed state of haute couture in the 1970s. This ensemble is one of his “rich peasant” styles that treated folkloric daywear in a luxurious manner. Saint Laurent evokes his Algerian upbringing with an over-garment resembling a burnoose, or hooded cape.
