Suit

People and Brands:
Designer: André Courrèges

1923 - 2016

Brand: Courrèges

French, 1961 - 1986

Medium: Grey and white houndstooth wool and black suede
Date: Fall/Winter 1961-1962
Country: France
Credit: Donated in memory of Isabel Eberstadt by Her Family
Isabel Eberstadt purchased this suit from Courrèges’ first collection, described by an audience member as having “not one mistake in taste.” Infused with a fashion-forward sensibility, the suit reflects the couturier’s training at Balenciaga. Advanced tailoring techniques were required for the jacket to stand away from the body in such a sculptural manner. Courrèges reinforced the suit’s angularity with a bold houndstooth fabric, the pattern matched with precision.
