Evening set

People and Brands:
Designer: Muriel King

1900 - 1977

Medium: Gray, brown and gold striped silk and gold lurex
Date: c. 1935
Country: USA
Credit: Gift of Mrs. Louise Morgan Hook, Mrs. Anne Morgan Simoneau and Mr. J. P. Morgan, II, in memory of their mother, Mrs. Junius S. Morgan
This evening ensemble is made from a simple striped fabric that King had cut and reassembled at a 45 degree angle. This technique, known as “mitering,” was popular with leading couturiers. Its use here underscores King’s familiarity with cutting-edge couture practices.
