Ensemble

People and Brands:
Designer: Louiseboulanger

1878 - 1950

Medium: Brown silk crepe de chine
Date: 1929
Country: France
Credit: Gift of Muriel King
A slender body type became the ideal for women during the 1920s. Loosely-fitted clothing, such as this ensemble by Louiseboulanger, de-emphasized the wearer’s curves. Although women’s wear from this era is sometimes described as “androgynous,” these styles also expressed the desire to look youthful and modern.
