Pierre Cardin was one of the most forward-thinking designers of the modern era. The influence of both the Space Age and Op Art on his 1960s designs is apparent in this dress, appliquéd with strips of white vinyl. In addition to his trendsetting couture creations, Cardin launched a lower-priced, ready-to-wear line in 1959—a concept that was then just as revolutionary as his futuristic aesthetic.
