Vice cop Sonny Crockett—Don Johnson’s character on the 1980s television series Miami Vice—was outfitted in casual, soft silhouettes in shades that were complementary to the vibrant color palette of the show. Wardrobe director Jodie Tillen often sourced designs directly from the European runways. These “tropical-chic fashions,” as Time magazine called them, helped boost sales of more relaxed, deconstructed styles for men.
