Schiaparelli frequently emphasized the shoulders in her work of the early 1930s, often through padding. The breadth of the shoulder served by contrast to create the impression of a lean line through the waist and hips. As curator Dilys Blum has noted, “Schiaparelli’s silhouettes were frequently described as having a strict neatness, with angles replacing feminine curves.”
