Evening dress

People and Brands:
Designer: Molyneux

1891 - 1974

Medium: Blue chiffon with sequins and satin-lined organza
Date: 1926-1927
Country: France
Credit: Gift of Phyllis Hulburd
Sequins and fringe were ubiquitous forms of embellishment on eveningwear in the 1920s. Molyneux combined the two, creating a dress of unexpected simplicity and elegance. His approach to design is refined in its use of a single color and modern in the way the dress reflects light when the wearer moves. The long strands of sequins fall freely to the hipline, alluding to the dropped waist of the fashionable silhouette.
