Dress

People and Brands:
Designer: Shogren

1889-1918

Medium: Ivory silk gauze with light blue satin stripe, ivory lace, ivory ribbon, and blue velvet ribbon
Date: c.1904
Country: USA
Credit: Gift of Mrs. Howard Serrell
This two-piece dress was designed to accentuate the youthful charm of Meta Beuhner, who was twenty years old when she wore it. The sheer fabric and pale color palette evoke a summer afternoon garden party. Delicate layers of coordinating ribbon and lace trim are applied in moderation, highlighting the vertical stripes and accentuating the lightness of the dress. A pleated gauze stripe emphasizes the small waist and softly bloused bodice of the s-curve silhouette.
