Shoes
Medium: Cream linen and multicolor silk embroidery
Date: c.1740
Country: England (possibly)
Credit: Gift of Phyllis W. Ingersoll
These shoes, with their latchet closure and high curved heels, are typical of the 18th century. The shoe on the right has been extensively conserved (cleaned and repaired in the least intrusive way), while the other shows the ravages of time. The Museum at FIT is fortunate to have a fully-equipped conservation laboratory, responsible for the care and preservation of the permanent collection.
