Label Text:Yves Saint Laurent unveiled his first woman’s pantsuit in 1966. Dubbed le smoking it was literally a man’s tuxedo tailored for a woman’s body. Although considered shocking in the late 1960s, the pantsuit became a staple of the fashionable woman’s wardrobe during the 1970s. Along with le smoking, the double-breasted pinstripe “gangster” suit was another signature Saint Laurent style.
