Label Text:In 1924, Jean Patou travelled to the United States to study what he termed the “American Diana.” He claimed that American women with slender, athletic figures were better suited than their European counterparts to his elegant, sporty designs. Patou was a contemporary of Gabrielle Chanel, whom he considered his greatest rival.
