DescriptionWhite cotton lawn lingerie dress with lace trim; standing collar in rows of lace has hook closing at center back; yoke of lace is swirled in scallop effect dipping to point at center front short puff sleeves are made of rows of lace superimposed with rows of gathered lace finishing with flared lace cuffs; front bodice has row of tucks below yoke three rows of lace insertion in diminishing half moon shapes over each bust; bodice gathered into pouch onto lace midriff; skirt has shaped lace hipband set onto lawn portion in scallops; 3/8 inch tucks below band are released in skirt and pleated over at center back; skirt has three rows of lace inserted in scallops around skirt at mid length; wide hem flounce with three 1/2 inch tucks finishes skirt; hook closing at center back; attributed to Paquin by donor
Label Text:The “lingerie dress” was worn for informal occasions such as garden parties. In 1902, The Delineator noted that the “dainty” white cottons used for these dresses were “more sheer than ever.” These diaphanous fabrics were provocative, but lingerie dresses were worn with a full set of undergarments beneath them.
