Label Text:Lilly Daché was arguably the foremost celebrity milliner in the United States during the 1930s and 1940s. This turban, typical of her work of that time, shows her flair for color and drama. While her millinery designs were coquettishly feminine, Daché possessed drive and a tireless business sense. Like Chanel, she was her own best spokesmodel, a fascinating modern woman with whom other women could easily identify. She built a formidable fashion empire, which eventually included ready-to-wear, two fragrances, hosiery, cosmetics, costume jewelry, and other accessories.
