Label Text:Los Angeles-based designer Gilbert Adrian used prominent shoulder pads in both his casual daywear and his more formal designs. This silhouette dominated during the 1940s and was considered “masculine” in its proportions — not only for the broad shoulders, but also its narrow hips. Adrian popularized the style in his fashion collections as well as in his costume designs for MGM studios.
