This pelisse and calash blend utilitarian function with style. The cut of the coat is loose but mirrors the 1830s fashion for sloping shoulders and large sleeves. The matching capelet provides extra warmth, while mimicking popular collar details. The calash bonnet style was designed to stand above the head to protect intricate hairstyles.
DescriptionPelisse: grey silk taffeta; high V neck, self ruffle edge collar; drop shoulder yoke; pleated bodice back with empire inset belt; gathered and pleated; full long sleeve with self ruffle trimmed cuff; pleated front with self ruffle right center front edge; ivory silk lining; three self covered button and loop left front closing; self tie center front neck.
