DescriptionWaist length bodice of embroidered net; pleated standing neck ruffle dips to bosom line in front; dropped shoulder; ribbon waistband; flared sleeves end with embroidered band; square yoke embroidery front and back. Matching apron / embroidered ruffle circles up to waist in back; ribbon waistband. Matching flared skirt has shirred pouf bustle back; embroidered ruffle forms train in back; triangular embroidered motifs circle skirt above ruffle at hem; ribbon waistband.
Label Text:This ensemble is made from a profusion of tulle. Historically, fine transparent fabric and handmade lace were expensive markers of elite classes. However, machine-made net could mimic their diaphanous effect for much less money. Fabrics such as these blurred lines of social class during the 19th century.
