Label Text:Pierre Cardin was rumored to take over at Christian Dior following the death of the house’s namesake in 1957, but the role was filled instead by Yves Saint Laurent. This decision was prudent – whereas Dior was renowned for his opulent eveningwear, Cardin excelled at making suits and coats with a modern edge.
