Label Text:Military uniforms convey their wearers’ nation, rank, regiment, and branch of the armed forces. They help ensure that soldiers immediately recognize a superior officer—as well as enemy troops (or friendly forces) in the field. Historically, military uniforms were designed to stand out. During the 20th century, the spread of guerilla warfare led to a desire for uniforms that blend in, as with this olive drab U.S. Army uniform.
