Label Text:The Pyer Moss fall 2018 collection referenced nineteenth-century, black cowboys in order to highlight the whitewashing of American culture. Kerby Jean-Raymond fused “cowboy” details like chaps, yoked tops, and wide brimmed hats with sneakers, T-shirts, hoodies, and track suits. It was a rebuke of the cowboy—a stereotype of white American masculinity. The biting slogan “AS USA AS U” was printed across the collection.
