Label Text:Founded in 1998, Sean John merged hip hop style with high fashion, inspiring later designers, including those at Vetements, Balenciaga, and Yeezy. In 2004, Sean Combs became the first black designer to win a CFDA award. He reflected: “Being an African American designer was very heavy on my heart…People tried to put us in a little box. . . . The CFDA award changed the perception.”
