Label Text:Marithé Bachellerie and Francois Girbaud are often credited with inventing stone-washing, a technique they developed to make denim softer. The demand for softened denim grew from the hippies’ penchant for wearing pre-owned jeans. Marithé and Francois recognized that average consumers did not have the patience to wait for jeans to fade and soften naturally, and would be willing to pay a premium for them ready-made.
