Label Text:The 19th-century botanical imagery on this dress represents the natural world “untouched” by man. McQueen paired the dress with an embossed corset in his spring/summer 2009 collection, which was inspired by Darwin, the Industrial Revolution, and human recklessness towards nature. McQueen used angular silhouettes and dark colors in other parts of the collection to express his anxieties over mankind’s destruction of the planet.
