Label Text:Yohji Yamamoto created one of fashion’s most beautiful and poetic renditions of indigenous Arctic clothing for his fall/winter 2000 collection. Inspired by French photographer Francoise Huguier, Yamamoto took his cue from her Siberian subjects and their environment. Yamamoto juxtaposed magnificently rich and specially commissioned jacquard fabrics with panels of suede that were purposely cut to resemble the natural, ragged edges of animal skins. Fantastical and luxurious dresses and gowns were swathed in fur — both real and faux — that encircled hoods, collars, and the hems of voluminous and padded skirts.
