Label Text:Gaultier first debuted skirts for men in 1984. Fashion journalist Amy Spindler marveled that despite the feminine “trappings” on his menswear, men “against all probability…still look like men.” A cultural aversion to men in skirts is perhaps mediated in this case by the use of Western stylistic details, evocative of the rugged masculinity associated with the American cowboy.
