DescriptionRobe à L'Anglaise, afternoon dress and underskirt in rust brown colored silk satin woven with white windowpane check enclosing stylized flowers in shades of blue and chartreuse yellow / green; low squared neckline, fitted open front bodice with tab closures, 3/4 length fitted sleeves; gathered dirndl skirt tie closure and CB linen panel; fichu in white cotton batiste; four brass buckles
Label Text:The open-front bodice of this gown lends an air of undress without actually revealing the body. The robe à l’anglaise style was defined by its closely fitted bodice and one piece construction of top and skirt. Although form-revealing, the style was actually considered more modest than loosely fitted gowns of the period, which were associated with undress.
