Label Text:This evening dress takes a refined approach to the influence of op art on fashions of the 1960s. Michel Goma created his "canvas" with the use of heavy black silk fabric, which is further shaped with a stiffened underlining and a horsehair hem. This allows for an uninterrupted view of the inset of white silk, which follows the geometric form of the dress and provides a sharp visual contrast. The ovoid is inset on both the front and the back of the dress, assuring that the design can be appreciated from all angles. This is an especially successful example of Goma's work for the long-established house of Patou, which catered to a modern, youthful, and yet sophisticated clientele.
