Label Text:Fashion historian Claire Wilcox notes that over the 1970s, “Fashion became a serious pursuit for the professional woman,” who was increasingly visible with the women’s liberation movement. Women expressed financial independence through clothing and accessories “that were defiantly expensive, clearly identifiable goods, and consumer icons.” During the image-conscious eighties, flashy designer handbags, sunglasses, and “power heels” were emblematic of the new ease in which people flaunted their wealth.
