Label Text:Embroidered garments indicated wealth and status during the eighteenth century, and floral motifs were worn by both men and women. Charles Germain de Saint-Aubin, embroidery designer to King Louis VX, published a book about his trade in 1770. It outlined techniques to create shading and the appearance of movement, resulting in more realistic flowers, such as those depicted on this suit.
